Tyler Rhodes is a senior at Lancaster High School. He is currently enrolled in the Automotive Technology Courses at the Northern Neck Technical Center (NNTC). Tyler shared that as a younger child, he worked on cars and other equipment with his father that ranged from a Mustang to a 4-Wheeler. It was through these experiences that he credits becoming interested in mechanics as a career.
Tyler shared that he enjoys the courses he takes at the tech center because he is able to be active and use his hands. Tyler said there are character traits that are important to being successful in class and in life. He said being patient and realizing that there is an order to what needs to be accomplished is important. In addition, the ability to plan and prioritize tasks when assessing what repairs or work needs to be done helps him to be successful.
Tyler would tell younger students to “follow their gut” when deciding what career pathway to take. He advised that to realize what you enjoy and then see if you can make it a career.
Tyler said in addition to his passion for automotives, he enjoys hunting, fishing, sports, and family. He is proud that he is able to have the skill set to help when others have car trouble or if their car is broken-down.
Tyler is planning on working in the automotive repair field and giving back to his community and will use the training he has received in high school to enter a career after graduation.
Lancaster High School is proud of Tyler and his accomplishments with Career & Technical Education. We look forward to seeing what the future has in store for him.
