Students in Miss Cronk's 4th block ELA classroom have been reading the graphic novel I Survived the Attacks of September 11, 2001. After reading the novel, students watched "Boatlift" narrated by Tom Hanks. On September 11, students discussed what they liked about this graphic novel vs. the movie. After the discussion, there was a question-and-answer period for students to ask questions related to the video or the novel. Miss Cronk went on to explain that 9/11 is part of the US History 2 standards and will be discussed in more detail later in the year. Once this was finished, students had a better understanding of Lucas, the main character, in the I Survived the Attacks of September 11, 2001 graphic novel. Students used this understanding to create a graphic organizer that determined Lucas' best character traits. This is just one example of how our teachers are doing amazing things each day in the classroom!
