High school students Lucy McDaniels and Evan Welch have the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the communications industry. Both students have recently secured positions with Two Rivers Communications, which operates 107.1 WIGO Country in Kilmarnock, Virginia. They are embarking on their new roles by learning the foundational aspects of radio operations and exploring the various career paths available within this field.
Initially, both students are focusing on the fundamentals, such as operating the control panel during basketball games. This involves organizing commercials, ensuring precise timing, and providing clear audio to the audience.
Lucy expressed her passion for sports and her aspiration to pursue a career in sports broadcasting. Her prior experiences include announcing at school events and assisting with scorekeeping during games.
Evan conveyed his enthusiasm for music and views this opportunity as a way to learn more about radio station programming.
Both Lucy and Evan are grateful for this opportunity and have praised the kindness and support of the staff. They appreciate the encouraging learning environment and look forward to further developing their skills in broadcasting and communications.
